Rubbish removal

Rubbish removal on the Gold Coast: what can go?

Coastal Property Services can consider suitable non-hazardous household rubbish, bagged or gathered green waste, and manageable unwanted furniture. Acceptance depends on the items, quantity and access, so send a list or photos before booking. We cannot take hazardous materials, chemicals, asbestos or medical waste.

A household clear-out can contain several kinds of waste. Identify them before combining everything into one pile: an unwanted chair and old garden chemicals need different plans.

Items to include in your enquiry

Our rubbish-removal service covers suitable everyday clear-out items. Describe what you have rather than asking for a quote for “a load of rubbish”. Include:

  • Household rubbish: list the main items and explain what is inside any bags or boxes.
  • Furniture: give the number of pieces, approximate dimensions and any heavy or awkward parts.
  • Green waste: describe whether it is leaves, clippings or other garden debris, how much there is and whether it is gathered or bagged.

These are categories to discuss, rather than a guarantee that every item will be collected. Large, heavy or unusual items need checking first. Mention appliances, mattresses, tyres, batteries and gas bottles individually so suitability and any separate disposal needs can be confirmed.

Keep hazardous and unidentified materials separate

Do not add chemicals or hazardous materials to the agreed general load. If you find old paint, pool chemicals, oils or unidentified containers, mention them and arrange an appropriate disposal option separately. Our service does not include hazardous materials, asbestos or medical waste.

Planet Ark’s household chemical disposal guidance says chemicals should stay out of household rubbish and recycling bins, kerbside collections and drains. Its Gold Coast directory lists potential disposal options; check accepted materials, quantities and arrangements directly with the facility before travelling.

If an item is unidentified or you suspect asbestos, leave it undisturbed and seek appropriate specialist advice. Do not break it apart to fit it into the collection.

Decide whether an item needs removal at all

For belongings still in useful condition, consider whether you want to sell, give away or donate them. Confirm a charity accepts the item before arranging a drop-off. Keep anything awaiting a decision apart from the agreed collection so it is clear what must stay.

If sorting is the main task, our garage decluttering guide explains how to decide what stays. Garage reorganisation and taking rubbish away are separate jobs; request both explicitly if you need both.

Show the load and the route out

Take an overall photo plus closer photos of individual bulky items. Include approximate quantities or dimensions, without climbing or moving anything difficult just to take a picture. Say where the items are: inside a garage, beside the house or in a back garden.

Describe gates, stairs, narrow paths, slopes and the distance to a practical loading point. For an apartment or shared property, check any access arrangements with the building manager and include them in the enquiry. Do not move heavy furniture outside in advance unless a suitable plan has been agreed.

For example, an enquiry listing two chairs, three boxes of mixed household items and four bags of leaves, all in a ground-level garage, is easier to assess than “small garage clear-out”. Photos can show what the words miss.

Confirm the quote and disposal plan

Before agreeing to the work, confirm which items will be taken, any items excluded, the access arrangements and how disposal fees are handled. Coastal Property Services discusses disposal fees before work is agreed. Let us know if you add items or discover something different after receiving the quote.

If you are considering a tip trip yourself, check the City of Gold Coast’s current waste-centre conditions. The City sets conditions for residential loads and treats commercial waste separately. Do not assume a residential disposal allowance applies to a paid collection, or that every centre accepts the same materials.
